Description

Pigeon Point is a plain light blue glass-ceramic mosaic with large square 40 × 40 mm chips. The sheets measure 325 × 325 mm.

The surface is smooth and even, with a slight gloss, like the sky above the water. The large pieces emphasise the purity of the colour. It is suitable for bathrooms, showers and spa areas where a light, fresh look is wanted, and it combines easily with white sanitaryware.

Key advantages of Pigeon Point

  • Non-porous glass: water absorption is up to 0.04 %, so no mould, stains or odours appear.
  • Lasting colour: does not fade in sunlight (ISO 4892) or from chemical cleaning agents (class A under ASTM C650).
  • Frost resistance: withstands alternating freezing and thawing (ASTM C1026), so it is also suitable for outdoor use.
  • Strength: flexural strength of 55 N/mm² (EN ISO 10545-4) and a smooth, flawless surface.
  • Eco-friendly: 100 % recycled glass, free of lead, cadmium and other heavy-metal pigments.

Silicone dot backing

The chips of Pigeon Point are fixed to a silicone (polyurethane) backing made of small dots. They hold the chips together without covering their backs.

As a result, more than 95 % of the back of every chip stays free for the adhesive, and the bond is very good. The backing adds no thickness, stays stable in storage and is not affected by either the adhesive or the grout. The sheet is flexible, so it is easy to lay around curves, steps and corners.

Choosing the grout

A white grout creates an almost seamless look, while a light grey one outlines the individual pieces.

In wet areas, such as showers, an epoxy or waterproof C2 grout is chosen, because it does not absorb moisture and keeps its tone.

Installation step by step

  1. Preparing the substrate. The substrate must be dry, sound, dust-free and level – no more than 2 mm of unevenness over 2 m. Before the mosaic is laid, the wet area of the shower is waterproofed.
  2. Adhesive. White elastic cementitious adhesive of class C2TE S1 is suitable. The colour matters: the glass is slightly translucent, and a grey adhesive would dull the tone.
  3. Application. The adhesive is spread with a notched trowel (3–4 mm) over an area for 2–3 sheets.
  4. Placing. The sheet is pressed on evenly with a rubber float. The same 2 mm joint is left between the sheets.
  5. Cutting. Around corners and jets, the silicone dots are cut through with a utility knife; individual chips are cut off with special glass-mosaic pliers.
  6. Grouting. This is done after 24 hours. For the shower area it is best to use an epoxy or waterproof C2 grout.
  7. Cleaning. Grout residue is wiped off with a damp sponge while it is still fresh; epoxy residue is cleaned off immediately with a specialist cleaner.
  8. Putting into use. The shower is used only after the grout has fully hardened.

What you need to prepare

  • a sponge, a bucket and clean water;
  • a utility knife and special glass-mosaic pliers;
  • a rubber float and a notched trowel with 3–4 mm teeth;
  • grout – epoxy or waterproof;
  • white adhesive of class C2TE S1.

Approximate material consumption

Allow roughly 2 kg per m² of adhesive for chips up to 25 mm, 2.5 kg for 40 mm and 3 kg for even larger ones. The amount of grout is calculated from (A + B) / (A × B) × C × D × 1.6 kg per square metre, applied here for 40 × 40 mm, a thickness of 5.5 mm and a joint of 2 mm. These are guide values: the exact consumption varies with the evenness of the substrate, its absorbency, the products chosen, the size of the trowel and the outline of the site. Before buying, compare with the data sheets of the adhesive and the grout.

Laboratory tests

  • UV exposure (ISO 4892): the colour does not change.
  • Face surface (EN ISO 10545-2): all chips free of defects.
  • Water absorption (EN ISO 10545-3): up to 0.04 %.
  • Flexural strength (EN ISO 10545-4): 55 N/mm².
  • Cleaning agents and acids (ASTM C650): class A, the surface remains unchanged.
  • Temperature cycles – freezing and thawing (ASTM C1026) and thermal expansion (EN ISO 10545): the mosaic withstands them.

Maintenance

  • Clean with a soft cloth or sponge and a neutral cleaner.
  • Do not use abrasive powders, wire brushes or acids on the grout.
  • After showering, go over the surface with a rubber squeegee so that no water marks are left on the glass.

How it is sold

  • The unit of measure is 1 m².
  • Pigeon Point is supplied in whole cartons of 1 m².
  • It is advisable to take the whole quantity at once, with a 5–10 % reserve, so that everything comes from one batch and has the same shade.

Questions and answers

What adhesive is needed for Pigeon Point?

The best choice is white elastic cementitious adhesive C2TE S1 – with it the shade of the glass is seen true.

Which grout should I choose?

In wet areas, such as showers, an epoxy or waterproof C2 grout is chosen, because it does not absorb moisture and keeps its tone.

Can I buy less than a carton?

No, it is sold in whole cartons of 1 m². Take everything at once so that it comes from one batch.

Is it suitable for wet rooms?

It is intended for walls and wet areas; the glass does not react with cleaning agents.

Can it be bonded onto old tiles?

Yes, when the old tiles are sound, clean, degreased and treated with a primer suitable for the substrate.

Why the real colour may differ from the photos

Glass mosaic is perceived differently depending on the conditions, so there may be a difference between the photos and the finished lining. The factors are:

  • screen settings and brightness;
  • the light – sunny, overcast or artificial;
  • the viewing angle – glass reflects and sparkles differently;
  • the chosen grout, the adhesive and the size of the tiled area;
  • the surroundings: coping, paving, walls, greenery;
  • the production batch – the shade may vary slightly from one to another;
  • natural differences between the individual chips in the mixes.

The visualisations are indicative. If the colour is decisive, confirm it before ordering.

How much mosaic do you need?

Send us the dimensions of the room and we will calculate the square metres and the number of cartons before you order.
