Description
Why a hot tub needs stable alkalinity
Alkalinity is the carbonate balance in the water – a kind of buffer that keeps the pH from swinging. When it is in order, the water maintains its own acidity. Hot water and disinfectants reduce it, and after that the pH starts to change for no apparent reason. Alkalita Plus is a granulated product that brings the alkalinity back to the target 80–120 ppm and thus also helps the other products work better.
Key facts
- Dosage: 18 g per 1 m³ = +10 ppm
- Target alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
- No more than +50 ppm per treatment
- Package: 0.6 kg
What the product gives you
- Calmer pH: with low alkalinity the value keeps changing.
- Suitable for hot water: restores what heat and disinfectants take away.
- The water regulates itself: with good alkalinity it holds its acidity on its own.
- Stronger effect of other products: optimises the effect of other water treatment products.
How to proceed
- Measure the alkalinity with the Quick Check 4 in 1 tester.
- If the value is below 80 ppm, add Alkalita Plus; if above 120 ppm, use SPA pH Minus.
- The dose is 18 g per 1 m³ for each +10 ppm. First dissolve it in a few litres of lukewarm water, then pour it along the walls of the tub while the filter is running.
- Do not raise the alkalinity by more than 50 ppm at a time. If you need more, measure the result and then repeat.
Amounts by volume
Amounts for each +10 ppm of alkalinity:
- for 2 m³ – 36 g
- for 1.5 m³ – 27 g
- for 1 m³ (1000 l) – 18 g
- for 800 l – 14.4 g
- for 500 l – 9 g
Alkalinity first, then pH
In a hot tub, hot water and frequent use change the values quickly. So when you have pH problems, check the alkalinity first – it absorbs small fluctuations and does not let the pH jump.
If the total alkalinity is too low, the pH is unstable and changes often. Conversely, with higher alkalinity the water returns to a normal pH on its own. Maintaining 80–120 ppm prevents sudden jumps. Note: when choosing a product, especially a liquid one, check the concentration of the active substance.

Handling the product safely
This text is for guidance only. Before opening the package, read the label and the safety data sheet carefully.
- Wear protective clothing, gloves and face and eye protection.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling chemical products.
- Open the package slowly so that the contents do not spill and no dust or splashes are raised.
- Store and use the product only according to the label and the safety data sheet.
- Keep it locked away, out of reach of children, of people with reduced sensory or mental capabilities and of pets.
- If the product is swallowed, inhaled or gets into the eyes or onto the skin, do not improvise. Stay calm and follow the instructions on the label or in the safety data sheet. With most products, especially chlorine-based ones, vomiting is not induced and activated charcoal is not given, but this does not apply to all products, so be guided by the label and by your doctor. As a general rule, water is drunk, the amount depending on the case.
- The product is always added to a sufficiently large amount of water, never the other way round, because with some substances water poured onto the product can cause an explosion.
- Do not mix different products, whether during use, transport or storage.
- Do not touch the product with wet or unprotected hands.
- Chlorine tablets are not dropped straight into the water; a dedicated dispenser is used.
- Do not enter the water immediately after adding products, especially if they have not dissolved completely or if the free chlorine is above 0.8 mg/l.
These rules apply to most Azuro products, but not to all of them, and they do not cover every precaution. If necessary, consult a doctor and show them the label or the safety data sheet.
Questions and answers
When is Alkalita Plus added?
If the total alkalinity is below 80 ppm or the pH regularly swings.
How much product is needed?
Each cubic metre of water needs 18 g for +10 ppm; do not exceed +50 ppm in a single treatment.
What do I do if the alkalinity is above 120 ppm?
Use SPA pH Minus.
